About Organisation

Ebony Steel Band Trust Ebony Steelband Trust was formed in 1969 and has been promoting and providing tuition in steelpan music for children and young people since its inception. It is currently providing 4 regular classes per week at its base at the Yaa Centre, catering for all abilities. Ebony also provides tutors for various schools. Once they are ready, participants are able to join and play with Ebony’s Children’s or Junior Bands and perform at a variety of social and community events and festivals. The highlight of the year for Ebony is Notting Hill Carnival and its young musicians play along the full carnival route. Ebony also practices the carnival art of costume design and making (Mas’) and encourages and enables creative participation by children and young people. Ebony’s young musicians perform throughout the year at a wide variety of events. Recent concerts have included a televised performance at the Memorial Service for Grenfell at St Paul’s Cathedral, playing with Billy Ocean at the Albert Hall, playing at Tate Modern, the London Marathon and a range of community events.
