What We’ve Funded: Making Space Grant 2023-24
2023 is the second year we’ve run our Making Space grant for projects and organisations supporting children and young people with SEND. These children and young people are underrepresented in local and national youth provision therefore the projects funded through this grant aim to reduce inequality across the sector and empower children and young people with these needs.
These 4 projects will work with groups of children and young people to make them feel welcome and included in the community:
Latimer Community Art Therapy (LCAT)
Latimer Community Art Therapy is a grass roots community organisation which provides professional mental health support through art psychotherapy as well as community services & activities. By creating a role for an accessibility champion in the team, LCAT will broaden their abilities to support neurodiverse children and improve their accessibility to those with restricted physical capabilities.
Hornimans Adventure Playground
Hornimans is a community adventure playground based in the Golborne ward of North Kensington for children and young people aged 5 – 16 years. They will develop their SEND provision by employing a project worker who will manage, coordinate and develop our SEND play provision. Hornimans will also deliver a weekly SEND play session at weekends available exclusively for children with SEND as well as their families and carers.
The Octavia Foundation will develop their exciting Access Digi-Base Programme improving accessibility in the digital arts. This will allow young people with SEND to acquire new skills in the digital arts with workshops on everything from tactile stop motion animation to multi-media filmmaking.
FFLY will employ an SEND projects lead as well as an Apprentice with SEND who will work together to build a programme for local children and young people. In addition, FFLY will launch a new project about healthy eating and cooking for children and young people with SEND, culminating in a cook book of the recipes they have created over the term.
