What We've Funded: Our Choice 2024-25
The Our Choice Small Grants programme, in partnership with John Lyon's Charity, provides funding for local voluntary organisations working with children and young people in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The grant is specifically for projects that support and empower:
- girls and young women
- and/or LGBTQIA+ young people
Here are the 5 projects that have been funded as part of this year’s grant (to book young people onto these projects, please follow the hyperlinks):
An Nisa Community Empowerment: Girls Can Too!
From September, An-Nisa will start Girls Can Too! a weekly project providing boxing and self-defence sessions to empower girls, young women, and LGBTQIA+ young people in Kensington and Chelsea.
From October, FFLY will run a bi-weekly youth group for girls and LBGTQIA+ young people, involving group activities, discussions, workshops and trips. They will also run sessions at their Wednesday youth club to address and reshape the attitudes of boys and young men towards girls and LBGTQIA+ young people.
Swimunity
Swimunity will deliver a girls-only residential in Lulworth Cove, Devon. This will be a space for a group of 10 girls to share in experiences, form friendships outside of their regular settings, and try new activities such as sea swimming, coasteering and surfing.
Financial Harmony
Financial Harmony will run two courses combining finance literacy training and self-development coaching for up to 50 girls and young women in North Kensington.
Nxt Generation will host 2 weekly football and youth club sessions for girls aged 15-21. These sessions will involve football training, featuring girls-only fitness classes, cooking and socialising opportunities.
