The Big Give: Christmas Challenge

The Big Give runs the UK’s biggest match funding campaign, The Christmas Challenge.

For seven days, it offers supporters of participating charities the opportunity to have their donation doubled. Founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Sir Alec Reed CBE, the Christmas Challenge has raised millions of pounds for thousands of charity projects since it launched on the Big Give in 2008.

How does the Christmas Challenge Work?

The Christmas Challenge is a match funding campaign where donations to participating charities are doubled. The match funds come from two sources - charities secure some of these (Pledges) over the summer. These funds are then boosted by funds from a Big Give Champion who contributes to the match fund. This collective pot is used to double donations from online supporters when the campaign is live.

The Christmas Challenge 2021 will take place from 12pm (midday) 30th November 2021 – 12pm (midday) 7th December 2021 when donations to participating charities are doubled.

Who is eligible to take part? You must:

  1. Be a UK-registered charity with a Charity Commission number or tax-exempt status and annual income of at least £25,000 (as per last filed accounts)
  2. Submit Stage 1 Application between 12pm (midday) Wednesday 19th May 2021 and 5pm Friday 2nd July 2021
  3. Complete Stage 2 (Collect your Pledges) by 5pm Friday 27th August 2021
