Kensington & Chelsea Foundation: Community Spirit Small Fund

We have set up an easily accessible small grants fund to support events and activities that bring joy, hope and healing to the community after the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This funding is for one-off events and short-term projects such as cultural and celebration events, school holiday activities, workshops, sports sessions and equipment for your group. Activities can take place both in person and online. We encourage applications for projects and activities which are as inclusive as possible., but the primary beneficiaries of your project or event must be residents of Kensington + Chelsea.

The Fund opens on 30th September 2021 and there is no deadline for applications, which will be considered on a rolling basis.

What funding is available?
The maximum grant available is £1,000. The amount applied for must make up at least a quarter of the total project cost.

Who can apply?
The Community Spirit Small Grants Fund is open to local voluntary and community groups, faith groups, residents’ associations and community interest companies limited by guarantee. (If your group is not constituted i.e. does not have its own bank account, you must find a local constituted organisation which is willing to vouch for you and hold funds on your behalf).

The Kensington + Chelsea Foundation particularly welcome applications from grassroots organisations working with minority or excluded communities. If you have previously received a grant from The Kensington + Chelsea Foundation, you will not be considered for further funding unless you have submitted a satisfactory grant report.

In order for your application to be considered your organisation must:
1. be based in Kensington + Chelsea and/or have an established reputation for excellent work locally
2. have the necessary insurances, safeguarding policies and DBS checks in place for staff and volunteers
3. provide an organisation whom we can contact as a referee

Applications will be considered by a grants panel who will assess your proposal against the following criteria:
1. how well does the project address the aims of the fund?
2. how clear is the intended impact of the project and is there an evaluation plan?

Applications are invited for a one-off grant only. This Fund is unable to make long-term commitments. They will aim to respond to applications as soon as possible; they will be assessing application forms roughly every 2 weeks. They advise applying at least 6 weeks before a project is due to start. Evaluations will be required 2 months after project completion.

What will not be funded?
This Fund will not support the purchase of capital equipment, activities or costs which are part of your ongoing operations and services, political lobbying, activities which promote a particular religion, or which are primarily the provision of a commercial services.
