Champions for Children

In light of the Coronavirus and its inevitable impacts on vulnerable children and young people across London, The Childhood Trust is launching the Champions for Children match-funding campaign to raise UNRESTRICTED FUNDS for charities working with children whose lives have been impacted by the pandemic.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible, your charity must be:

  • Charities working with vulnerable children and young people in London.
  • UK-registered charities with at least one year of filed accounts and an annual income of at least £25,000 (as per last filed accounts).
  • Charities which are registered on theBigGive.org.uk (free to register).
  • Total funds to be raised in the campaign must be between £4,000 and £100,000.

What is unrestricted funding?

This campaign is designed to support charities through the longer-term impacts of Coronavirus pandemic and ensure continued support for vulnerable children and young people in London. To this end, the funds raised through this campaign can be spend on whatever charities need to ensure this happens. There are some exceptions to what will be funded, however: please see The Childhood Trust’s Grant-Making Policy for more information.

Funding is for costs that will be incurred within 12 months of the campaign, With this in mind, The Childhood Trust expects its funds to be spent by July 2022.

Unrestricted funds do still require donor reporting, so the Childhood Trust will require charities participating in the Champions for Children campaign to tell us how the funds have been spent at both 6- and 12- months after the campaign.

Who matches the donations?

  • Each charity has its own matching pot consisting of contributions from a charity’s own major supporters (Pledge funds) and The Childhood Trust (Champion funds).
  • Together, these match funds are used to double donations made to the charity via theBigGive.org.uk during the week of the campaign.
  • Initially, a charity’s Pledge funds will be used to double donations. When these have been exhausted, donations will be doubled by the charity’s Champion funds.

Example: If a charity is seeking to raise a total of £8,000 towards their project and receives online donations of £4,000 in the Champions for Children, these donations will be doubled by the pledges (£2,000) and The Childhood Trust (£2,000).
